Short text

The title of this compelling series of poems on emigration and immigration written by Gino Pacifico is inspired by the tragic events on the island of Lesbos in 2020. The reader is guided through this anthological collection by Sappho, the first of all female poets. The poet's reawakening "under the constant, harsh blast of the burning and raging air of hell" in the refugee camp is both a reminder and a hope to the reader. She calls on Europe to "unite for the good of all". Pacifico's poems also address the feeling of alienation and sense of home of the generation of guest workers in the 20th century and use them as a lesson for the present with the appeal for successful integration. On the way through this lyrical life's work, the reader encounters not only the two topics of immigration and emigration, but also a variety of beautiful and aphoristic poems about love, nature and humanity. A rousing collection that invites you to reflect and smile at the same time.
