In the summer of 1998, Marla Richter, a young banker from Osnabrück, takes on the role of an investigator against her will. A young relative who works as a secretary in the European Parliament suddenly disappears after her boss, the parliamentarian Olaf Gessner, dies suddenly. Marla suspects a crime and goes to Brussels , where she is confronted with a political scandal of gigantic proportions. Their rather unprofessional research ultimately turns into a life-or-death struggle.

Pia Stangier was born in Wuppertal, lives most of her life in Osnabrück, with detours to Bremen and Oldenburg. As a trained bank clerk and active real estate agent, she is fascinated by topics from the fields of politics and finance. It is their concern to point out illegalities such as corruption, tax evasion, abuse of power. Out of an impulse of indignation, she wrote her first political thriller Unscrupulous Power . The protagonist of her novels, Marla Richter, shares the soul home in the Osnabrücker Land with the author.
