Description
Amid the chaos of war and migration, this story by Gino Pacifico tells the intertwined lives of two women fighting with hope and determination. Layla is a Syrian doctor who saw her son and husband die during the sea voyage to Italy, while Alioma, a mother from Eritrea, was the victim of horrific violence. The two meet for the first time in Lampedusa , still shaken by the atrocities of their countries. They comfort each other before their paths diverge.
Layla goes to Germany, where her ex-boyfriend works as a surgeon, while Alioma arrives in Rome to seek shelter in a family home. Despite the distance, Layla and Alioma continue to write to each other, but experience completely different challenges and new beginnings.
In this narrative, author Gino Pacifico takes us into the heart of the tragedy of forced migration, revealing the despair and suffering of refugees, but also the resilience and solidarity that can shine in the darkest moments. This touching story invites us to reflect on our obligations to those who have a right to a future. With his captivating writing style, Pacifico reminds us that even in the most difficult situations, there is always room for compassion and the promotion of change.
