Syria in 2011. The revolution breaks out. Adam, a young advocate of democracy and civil liberties , joins the revolutionaries in Damascus and is persecuted. Faced with the choice of risking the agony of torture or giving up his desire, he decides to leave the country. However, he does not give up his dream of a free Syria and initially ends up in Vienna . A ray of light appears at the end of the tunnel as Adam finds love there.

About the author

In this poignant novel, which was first published in Arabic in 2020, Samer Al Najjar addresses the events of contemporary Syrian history. The Syrian author, who immigrated to Germany himself in 2014, reacts with his literary work to the tragedies in which his country has fallen.
Samer Al Najjar studied German and Political Science in Düsseldorf. In 2021 he received grants from the Heimstatt Foundation Niederberg and the Adalbert and Thilda Colsman Foundation.
